BREAKING: NHL Grants Chicago Blackhawks Major Outdoor Game vs Rivals
The Chicago Blackhawks are getting ready for a rematch in the 2025 Winter Classic against the St. Louis Blues at Wrigley Field. This news, shared by team reporter Ben Pope with the Chicago Suntimes, is expected to revive the rivalry between the two cities again, following the Blues' 4-1 win over the Blackhawks at Busch Stadium in the 2017 Winter Classic.
This event is significant for NHL rising star Connor Bedard, who will play his first outdoor game in the league.
Although Bedard has played in outdoor events before with the Regina Pats in the WHL's Hockey Night on Wascana, adjusting to the unique vibe of Wrigley Field is important as he aims to secure his spot in Chicago's lineup.
The 2025 Winter Classic will be the Blackhawks' fifth appearance in the event, surpassing even the Pittsburgh Penguins for the most outdoor games played by an NHL team.
With two previous stadium series appearances, the Blackhawks are on track to lead the league in outdoor game participation.
Wrigley Field's selection as the venue for the Winter Classic makes it only the second location to host two such events, joining Boston's Fenway Park.
