Before the Calgary Flames game, Luke Richardson spoke with the media about Bedard's injury.
It was a long-winded way of saying "Keep your head up", and he mischaracterized dirty hits as legal.
Nick Foligno and Connor Murphy are there to protect Bedard on the ice, but no one is there to protect him from his own head coach's clown talk.
«I think (Brendan Smith) was just playing hard on the blue line.»

In addition, Richardson's outdated rhetoric about Bedard not keeping his head up while handling the puck is evident when listening to him speak.
Richardson goes so far as to excuse the Smith hit while Bedard is out injured.
Luke Richardson's statement isn't too far from the Don Cherry style of rhetoric and seeing as he has only been removed from the game not so long ago, it remains in the cultural lingo.
Very shameful, coach.
