The NHL draft is less than 48 hours away with general managers preparing for an onslaught of trades and movement throughout the league including Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson who made a late-night trade with the Vancouver Canucks.

The Canucks were in a salary dump mode as they are attempting to clear their salary cap by moving Canucks forwards Ilya Mikheyev and former Blackhawks Sam Lafferty along with a 2027 second round pick in exchange for a 2027 fourth round pick.
The Blackhawks will receive a familiar face in Lafferty who played with the Blackhawks in 2021 through 2023. He is known for a great penalty killer, supplies some bottom 6 scoring and overall physicality in his play.
Mikheyev Had a down season with the Canucks and has not produced some of the numbers like he did with the Toronto Maple Leafs. After several years of injuries, he played 48 games, scoring 11 goals with 20 assists for 31 points and as a + 1.
The Canucks will retain 15% of Mikheyev as he signed a four year $19 million contract that held a $4.75 million cap hit in 2022.
This move will help the depth of the Blackhawks who are continuing to rebuild the team. It's expected that Kyle Davidson will be aggressive in his mission with unrestricted free agency as several players will be available on July 1st.
The NHL draft will take place in Las Vegas NV with the first round on June 28th at 7:00 PM eastern.
