Connor Bedard put the Blackhawks up early with a power-play goal against Ilya Sorokin and the New York Islanders.

The Chicago Blackhawks made Patrick Roy and the New York Islanders pay for giving them a chance on the power play.

With 3:41 left in the 1st period, Connor Bedard took advantage of a situation that saw him retrieve the puck in the defensive zone when Ryan Donato did his best to keep play in the zone.

He'd utilize his stick-handling skills to cut through multiple New York Islanders' defensemen to give the Blackhawks the 1-0 lead at the end of the 1st period.

This new look Blackhawks offensive looks to be running smoother with Anders Sorensen leading the way.

Along with Connor Bedard's confidence is growing, as he felt good enough to deke through defenders and show us a play we'd have seen last season.

Bedard was helped on the power play by Teuvo Teravainen, and Ryan Donato, which was his 6th goal of the season.

This gives him 22 points( 6 G, 16 A) in 29 games this year, and he's not stopping just yet.

Sorensen's vision on the ice is paying off in spades, as Bedard has never looked better this season.

«Whenever you can add more guys and more options, it makes the game easier, so that's great for us,» Bedard said. «We want [the defensemen] shooting the puck, whether it's off the rush or off low-to-high [passes].»

Bedard has tallied an assist in each of the Hawks' first two games under Sorensen, earning a helper on Alex Vlasic's power-play goal in the loss to the Jets and feeding Taylor Hall for the deciding goal in the win over the Rangers. He'll seek his second three-game point streak of the season Thursday against the Islanders.

Maybe if the Blackhawks can keep the New York Islanders pinned in their own zone, like they did on the power play, we can see them improve to a 10-17-2 record this season.

They are not a bottom-dwelling team.
