Former Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson has been placed on unconditional waivers by the Boston Bruins.

The forward held out for a contract after leaving the Blackhawks at the end of the 2023-2024 NHL season.

Instead of re-signing with the Blackhawks, he wanted to explore opportunities with a Stanley Cup contender. He wanted to play post-season hockey!

Now it looks as if Johnson will fail to do even that this season, as the Bruins have placed him on waivers.

This was a mutual decision by the Bruins and Johnson, who originally signed a $775K contract with the Bruins earlier in the year.

Johnson only played 9 NHL games with the Bruins, scoring 2 assists.

Johnson was direct in speaking to reporters about his time with the Blackhawks.

"I'm obviously thankful for being here (Chicago)," he said. "I've met a lot of good people, but it wasn't exactly what I envisioned or wanted."

Last season with the Blackhawks he played 67 games with the Blackhawks and scored 31 points( 17 G, 14 A) and was looking forward to joining a winning team.

His time with the Blackhawks wasn't what he expected or wanted according to his quote above from April, 2024.

"I'd like to play some meaningful hockey and get back in the playoffs...That's where it's (playoffs) all at," Johnson added. "That's where I've always loved. I've always just wanted to be a part of that, and when you're not, especially the last few years here doing what we're doing, it's been pretty tough."

Nevertheless, Johnson will have to work to sell himself to another NHL team and find work as a depth forward.

Johnson was a part of the Tampa Bay Lightning dynasty which won two Stanley Cups consecutively in 2020 and 2021.

The undrafted forward has played 747 games scoring 433 points( 193 G, 240 A) with a career +19.
