Chris Chelios and Michael Jordan both played for legendary franchises.

One of the greatest basketball players of all time and one of the best NHL defensemen met shortly after Chelios was traded to the Blackhawks in 1990. During their first meeting at a White Sox game, they developed a friendship.

Jordan supported Chelios during his time with the Hawks and watched him play, and when Chelios returned in a Red Wings uniform in 1999 and was booed loudly, Jordan spent the rest of the game in a suite, hanging out with him. A sign of a strong friendship.

«The fans booed me every time I touched the puck,» Chelios writes in the book Chris Chelios: Made in America. «I know I should have expected that reaction, but to be honest it was unnerving. That was when I realized the depth of anger the Chicago fans had worked up for me. They saw me as a traitor.»

Red Wings coach Scotty Bowman decided to let Chelios sit out the two remaining periods. Actually, he told Chelios to leave the bench and go upstairs to hang out with his friend that was coming to see him. That person was basketball legend Michael Jordan.

«I dressed and watched the third period with Jordan in a suite. My old team wound up beating my new team 3-2.»

According to Chelios, who was interviewed on 670 The Score this morning, Michael Jordan is preparing to be in attendance for the ceremony.

In addition to Michael Jordan, the GOAT, Jeremy Roenick, Ed Belfour, Tony Amante, and Denis Savard will also be in attendance for the event, along with a slew of other legendary Blackhawks players.

As Patrick Kane returns to Chicago, this may be one of the biggest events in Chicago sports in a long time.
