The Chicago Blackhawks' Alec Martinez may be out long-term, which makes us wonder about his injury status.

A week ago, Martinez was placed on the Blackhawks' injured reserve:

It turns out that Martinez has been placed on injured reserve with a right groin injury. The team made the move official just a few hours after head coach Luke Richardson told the Chicago media Martinez would be evaluated for a lower-body injury following morning skate.

This led to the Blackhawks calling up Isaak Phillips last week. And again the Blackhawks are on a five-game road trip, and again they are relying on the AHL, and Rockford to help the big club add depth to the defensive ranks.

Since October 17th, Martinez has been out with a groin injury and Coach Luke Richardson felt that veteran would be back in the lineup soon.

But that doesn't appear to be the case, as nearly two weeks out of the lineup the Hawks are without Martinez, who wouldn't suit up against the Stars, or Avalanche.

With the San Jose Sharks next up on the dominoes to fall on Halloween, in between now and Thursday the team has decided to make a move.

They called up depth defenseman Isaak Phillips.

In Martinez's absence, the Blackhawks have relied upon Nolan Allan, who has more than held his own in the lineup. While his partner TJ Brodie has been quite underwhelming in his performance on the pair.

Phillips has seen 33 games of NHL play in 2023-2024 and scored 6 points while he was called up last season.

This isn't much different from where Phillips was last season as a regular call-up from the AHL.

Will this season be the year Phillips holds a spot in the NHL longer than 30 games?
