Chicago Blackhawks reporter lashes out on Rangers' Rempe
The Athletic's Mark Lazerus, who covers the Chicago Blackhawks has taken a turn and has chosen to speak out on one new personality in the league.
That is, Matt Rempe the New York Rangers' newest enforcer who arrived from the Hartford Wolf Pack recently.
Matt Rempe plays less than 6 minutes a game. He's appeared in all of 20 games. Yet he's injured at least four players now (Bastian, Siegenthaler, Lybushkin, van Riemsdyk). Keep telling me how clean his hits are, and how great he is for the game.
Rempe has played 20 games in the NHL, with sparse minutes and little to no offensive production. Rempe's totals are 2 points(1 G, 1 A) and 71 PIMS.
A goon in every sense of the word, and he had gained infamy as he has been wreckless in his play.
This has caused Lazerus to take issue with his lack of care regarding finishing his checks, which has injured players in the NHL.
«That was a dirty hit,» forward Nic Dowd said. «I think anybody can understand that Riems made a play, time passed, although quickly, and I think a player took advantage of another player in a vulnerable spot.» Rempe's latest victim was Trevor Van Riemsdyk, who was injured after a late hit by the enforcer.
Rempe was called for interference rightly so, but while the league before Lazerus' call to action with the instigator rule, should they pursue further action to protect players like Riemsdyk who suffered from a late hit?
Lazerus isn't wrong about Rempe's carelessness, and his lack of control.
Will the topic be discussed at a future Board of Governors meeting?
They should.
