Chicago Blackhawks sparked a significant curse for the game of hockey
The New York Rangers lost last evening to the Florida Panthers which prolonged the presidents cup curse that was sparked by the Chicago Blackhawks back in 2013.
The Blackhawks were the last team to win the presidents trophy and make it to the Stanley Cup final which happened in 2013. Since then, every other team from 2014 through 2024 have not been successful with many teams losing in the second round of the playoffs.
The Rangers and their fans had high hopes that this year would be the one that would allow them to raise the cup again after they are mired in a 30-year cup drought. The Florida Panthers were simply too strong for the Rangers and the Blueshirts also had trouble with their star players not producing at the key times.
It's worth mentioning that the Panthers were also a team that fell to this curse back in 2022 when they had a eye watering 58-18-6 record in the regular season to be swept out of the playoffs in the second round by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
All eyes now are on Edmonton as the Oilers and the Stars are set to do battle in game six this evening. If the Oilers win, they will punch their ticket to the Stanley Cup final for the first time since 2006.
