The price point for an on-ice authentic jersey was revealed today, and it was an ugly one.
If fans want to own a piece of fabric, that is made for players on the ice, it'll be a price at $425 USD/$500 CAD.
David Pagnotta gave NHL fans an idea of the tiers of jerseys available and fans are irate:
Price points:
Practice: $120 USD / $140 CAD
Breakaway: $135 USD / $160CAD for blank and $175 USD / $200 CAD for name & number)
Premium: $180 USD / $200 CAD for blank and $230 USD / $250 CAD for name and number
Authentic Pro: $425USD / $500 CAD https://t.co/36QHcsJCib pic.twitter.com/8grKJhMlnd- David Pagnotta (@TheFourthPeriod) September 21, 2024
While the practice jerseys and breakaway jerseys are affordable from $120-$135, it is the Authentic Pro which is $425 USD a pop.
These prices are ugly, and a result of Michael Rubin and Fanatics cornering another market in Sports Merchandising. They manufacture jerseys for the MLB and NFL and have had controversy at every step of the way.
So, it follows that they'd engage in price-gouging in the NHL.
Another example below from the Minnesota Wild's Hockey Lodge:
Ugly, ugly business.
Reeboks' prices for the MiC and Indo-Edge jerseys were much, much more affordable dating back to 2013.
We miss these beauties
