Marek Vanacker was the 27th overall pick in this year's NHL Entry Draft. The Chicago Blackhawks traded back into the first round to select him. Well, why not get to know him?
The Blackhawks most likely saw and liked the look of Vanacker when they were watching his teammate, Nick Lardis, in the OHL on the Brantford Bulldogs.
Vanacker isn't eligible to play for the Rockford Icehogs, the Blackhawks AHL affiliate this season, because he's only 18 and the OHL and AHL agreement restricts him from doing so.
Vanacker won't be able to attend this year's camp. He had surgery on his shoulder and will be out until December. But that didn't stop Kyle Davidson and his team from picking Vanacker.
Vanacker stepped up to the plate after Nick Lardis got hurt and had 82 points in 68 games.
Marek has a wicked shot for his age of only 18, but his skating needs some work. However, he's very coachable and is expected to be a good skater.
