The NHL announced the passing of Gilles Leger, a former Quebec Nordiques GM, at age 83.
Leger was with the Nordiques for 11 seasons and was known for his hard work to the team.
Before joining the Nordiques, Leger coached at St. Francis University from 1967 to 1972 and held positions in Ottawa, Toronto, and Birmingham.
He started with the Nordiques overseeing player development and became the GM in 1984, serving until 1995.
He ended his hockey career scouting for the Edmonton Oilers and then the New York Rangers until 2020.
Leger was a key part in scouting and signing the Stastny brothers from Slovakia, a key move that greatly impacted the team during his time there.
