NHL releases statement on Blackhawks vs Blues Winter Classic following reports of cancellation
The Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues will face off in the 2025 Winter Classic, pending a cancelation.
The outlook for the Chicago Blackhawks' next outdoor game has been nothing short of exciting as we get to see Connor Bedard play a huge event like the Winter Classic.
The setting will be legendary Wrigley Field, which was a spectacle to the Chicago Cubs 2016 World Series Win.
Now, the Blackhawks and Blues will be featured in a rivalry that's been around since 1967. But, the prospect of bad weather could lead to a cancelation, if rain would persist during the match, making it unsafe for the players.
But could there be good news?
Could the sun be the savior for Bedard and the Hawks, Mark Lazerus of The Athletic has an update.
A cancelation of the Winter Classic for another date would be another case of bad luck for the team that has failed to launch the CHSN.
Another long list of woes for the team, which has failed to improve after significant spending during free agency.
Thanks to Anders Sorensen that narrative may be a thing of the past, we hope.
With news of rain possibly clearing out early, there's hope the ice will be good enough to skate without players falling regularly and haphazardly.
The Blackhawks' outdoor record is 1-5-0 in 6 games and 1-1-0 on home turf.
The 2025 Winter Classic will take place on December 31st at 4 PM, should it not be rained out.
«This is one of the great landmarks in professional sports. We recognize that, we're honored that we're here, we're honored we're able to do a second game at Wrigley Field, and our fans love it. The response, not only from those in Chicago but NHL fans across the globe, they're really excited about coming back to Wrigley,» Mayer said.
«I think they're wondering what we have in store for the game and it's up to us to deliver.»
