23-year-old Henri Nikkanen was placed on waivers for the purpose of contract termination after he has not lived up to what the Winnipeg Jets had hoped for.
Standing at six foot 2 and 185 lbs, he was selected by the Winnipeg Jets in 2019, fourth round honored 13th overall.
Viewed as a bottom 6 forward, his best season was with the Manitoba moose in 2022-2023 where he had five goals in 11 assists for 16 points through 66 games.
A more surprising player was a veteran defenseman Travis Dermott who had signed with the Edmonton Oilers earlier this season.
Even with the Oilers struggles on defence, Dermott failed to be a difference maker and was always viewed as the 7th defenseman on the team.
During his short stint with the Oilers, he only played 10 games and was a - 3 with no points.
The former Toronto Maple Leaf who spent time with the Vancouver Canucks and the Arizona Coyotes could be claimed and maybe an option for the Blackhawks due to his veteran presence.
The Blackhawks season has been in shambles as the team failed to gain any traction in the NHL standings and in their game at times. The team lost 5-4 against the New York Islanders as this is the third game for a new rookie head coach Anders
Sorensen.
Connor Bedard had one of the best nights this season with one goal in two assists for three points with four shots on goal.
It's safe to say that perhaps general manager Kyle Davidson will look at the waiver wire in more detail with these potential players as options with the Blackhawks holding a deadline cap space of $17.5 million.
