The thought around this trade is the idea that the Canadiens would like to move down in the draft and collect extra draft picks that would help their rebuild or potentially add a roster player.
The Blackhawks on the other end are looking to move up as their recent trade with the New York Islanders have suggested that something big is coming at this draft as general manager Kyle Davidson continues to move up in his picks.
The Blackhawks are coveting a top defenseman and scoring in this draft with Ivan Demidov sitting at the number two pick and Artyom Levshunov available as well.
It's not the first time that the Canadians and the Blackhawks made a deal during the first round of a draft. The Canadiens acquired Kirby Dach from the Blackhawks two seasons ago and moved some key picks that helped the Canadiens land Lane Hutson.
It seems that Davidson is preparing to be very aggressive in this draft as it appears he feels the time is now to make a push for several great players to be added to the roster to move the Blackhawks out of the basement and to begin putting themselves back into playoff contention.
The team will be very active in the unrestricted free agent market as well with several needs on the checklist which include a number one goaltender, secondary scoring, and improved defenseman.
The fireworks may begin on Friday June 28th at the sphere in Las Vegas where the NHL draft will be held.
