Contending team coveting Patrick Kane spoiling Chicago Blackhawks return
It appears that the Boston Bruins have been coveting former Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane as the organization prepares for their offseason armed with more than $20 million in cap space.
The Bruins were exposed during this offseason as the team struggled to score goals especially during their two rounds of the playoffs. It seems that general manager Don Sweeney is looking two the now Detroit Red Wings star who is set to be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
Kane, had an interesting season as he recovered from hip resurfacing surgery earlier last year who became household news to which team he would choose to sign with. In the end he chose the Red Wings, trying to help them snap their playoff drought.
There were many who felt that general manager Kyle Davidson may take a call from Kane's agent as Scott powers of the athletic feels that a reunion between the three-time Stanley Cup champion and the Blackhawks may be in the works.
I was confident they weren't going to re-sign him last summer. Up until a few weeks ago. I've heard enough in the past few weeks to believe that the Blackhawks are going to at least internally discuss whether to re-sign Kane.
Kane ended up playing 50 games this season, scoring 20 goals with 27 assists for 47 points and is a - 5. He signed a one year $2.75 million contract with the Red Wings and it appears that his time in Motor City has come to an end.
I'm sure he'd like to make a run at Stan Mikita's franchise points record (Kane needs 242 points to match Mikita) or be in a Blackhawks jersey as he goes after Mike Modano's career numbers as the top U.S.-born player.
Blackhawks fans will know in due time whether Kane will be returning to the Windy City or be heading elsewhere as several teams will be lining up to acquire his services after July 1st.
