6 foot 3 enforcer lands on NHL waiver wire: valuable signing for any NHL team awaits

In a surprising move on Sunday the Ottawa Senators placed gritty and hard-working forward Zack MacEwen on waivers.

MacEwen is by no means an elite player or a goal-scorer, but he is the kind of player that every fan wishes they had on their team, despite not showing up on the score sheet.

MacEwen has dropped the gloves with some of the NHL's toughest, and wouldn't be afraid to drop the gloves in hopes to protect young stars like Connor Bedard.

Instead of trading him, the Senators placed him on waivers on Sunday in hopes to have him in their organization with the AHL's Belleville Senators, so they don't fully lose him.

The Ottawa Senators made a pair of roster moves on Sunday.

The club recalled forward Zack Ostapchuk from Belleville, while placing forward Zack MacEwen on waivers.

Ostapchuk has appeared in six games with the Senators this season, tallying one assist. In nine games with Belleville, Ostapchuk has registered one goal and seven assists.

MacEwen played in 19 games with Ottawa this season, scoring two goals and adding one assist.

Ottawa's next game takes place on Monday when the team hosts the Calgary Flames to conclude a four-game homestand at Canadian Tire Centre.

On the final year of his contract, it would be a no brainer for teams hoping for a spark of toughness to acquire MacEwen at no cost on the waiver wire.

Locked on Senators offered their opinion on the transaction made by the organization that they cheer for, and they are not too pleased.

Better to play than sit. Mac looked dialed the first few games but became less and less noticeable.

Personally I would have scratched Cousins for a game first because unlike ZM17 being unnoticeable, Cousins undisciplined penalties are actively hurting the team.

This is also great for Belleville (assuming Mac clears). MacEwen is an elite AHL talent

Monday will say it all, will MacEwen find another NHL home or will he remain in the AHL?
