The Chicago Blackhawks have made a major announcement today, as they have extended forward Landon Slaggert.

Slaggertcame from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the NCAA to play 16 games with the Chicago Blackhawks last season.

He'd score 4 points( 1 G, 3 A) during his short stint in Chicago last season.

While he played in the NCAA the majority of the year with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, scoring 31 points( 11 G, 20 A) in 36 games.

Slaggert, 22, appeared in 16 games with the Blackhawks during the 2023-24 season, notching four points (1G, 3A). He recorded an assist for his first NHL point (2A) on March 26 vs. Calgary and scored his first NHL goal on April 10 at St. Louis. Additionally, Slaggert skated in 36 games at the University of Notre Dame in 2023-24, posting career highs in goals (20) and points (31). He led the team with 31 points, while his 11 assists ranked seventh on the club.

Slaggert's cap hit for the next two seasons, will be $912K per PuckPedia as the contract expires in 2025, and will take him into RFA territory at age 25.

The 6'0" 180-pound forward played 136 games in the NCAA, and all of them with the Fighting Irish, scoring in total 92 points( 47 G, 45 A) from 2020-2024.

Slaggert picked up the "A" alternate Captain Patch in 2022 and held it until the end of his tenure in 2024 when he jumped into professional hockey, with the Chicago Blackhawks last season.

Is a versatile forward with decent size and sound fundamentals and instincts. Will not wow hockey observers with his talent level alone, but he is a low-maintenance, reliable player. Long Range Potential: Solid, versatile forward.

For now, this versatile forward will continue to develop in Rockford and will have two years by which time the Blackhawks could afford to bring him into the NHL, as the rebuild continues for the team.

He has gone pointless in Rockford, but the season has only begun and the team has only one game underneath their belt.

The future looks bright in Chicago, as they have Slaggert signed for the next two-seasons.

Could he make the big club next year?
