The Chicago Blackhawks Recalled The Wrong Defensemen From Rockford IceHogs

It was revealed that Martinez's injury was an issue with his right groin and that this depleted the Blackhawks defence on their left side. Management felt that Phillips was the right choice to be called up, but it begs the question why didn't they choose Kevin Korchinski to be called up to the Blackhawks?

Both players were sent down to the Rockford Icehogs and both have a case for the NHL, but I find it peculiar since both players shoot left and Korchinski had played 76 games last year for the Blackhawks would not be the better fit at this time. Phillips has been splitting time between Rockford and Chicago for quite some time and it appears he has been able to lock down a spot during those opportunities.

Isaak play 33 games with the Blackhawks and 29 games with the Icehogs last year with four goals and 16 assists for 20 points between both levels of hockey.
Prior to the season starting, head coach Luke Richardson gave an explanation to why Korchinski was sent 2 the Icehogs as he feels a gap year would do the young defenseman a good service as he could get even more ice time an experience playing in the AHL.

But the Blackhawks defence corps rattled with injuries I feel it would be a benefit to bring both players up to the NHL level and have them learn with a reinforced Blackhawks team and to help them win more games.

Isaak and the Blackhawks will continue their homestand as the Buffalo Sabres and head coach Lindy Ruff arrived in town, game time will be on October 19th 8:00 PM eastern.
