The Chicago Blackhawks Don't have this important piece in their lineup
The Chicago Blackhawks continues its progression, now arguably 2 years on, since Kyle Davidson tore it down to the studs.
He would let Jonathan Toews walk in 2023, finishing his contract without offering him a new one, the last official Blackhawks Captain who embodied the old legacy Blackhawks.
Which, Davidson didn't want to replicate the same culture, but build a new foundation which has already started to show in the Windy City.
But with the rebuild, the team has named Alternate Captains but still has no official Captain.
There are 9 NHL teams without a captain:
Anaheim Ducks
Arizona Coyotes
Boston Bruins
Calgary Flames
Chicago Blackhawks
Philadelphia Flyers
Seattle Kraken
St. Louis Blues
Winnipeg Jets
Who becomes the next captain for all of them?
The original six teams joins, 8 other teams in the NHL who haven't named a Captain yet.
But for now, we can speculate it's going to be Connor Bedard eventually who becomes the team's next Captain.
Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson announced on Tuesday that instead of naming a captain this season, following the offseason departure of longtime leader Jonathan Toews, the team will instead utilize a group of alternate captains to cement the leadership core.
Kyle Davidson's strategy was smart, in one way honoring Toews's legacy, but to let a leader grow organically in the meantime.
Will 2024-2025 be the year, GM Kyle Davidson and Head Coach Luke Richardson identify the next Blackhawks Captain?
