The Detroit Red Wings have released tragic news about former team masseur, Sergei Mnatsakanov.
Mnatsakanov passed away yesterday, the team announced on their X page.
The Detroit Red Wings are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former team masseur Sergei Mnatsakanov. Sergei was a member of the 1997 Stanley Cup Championship team that brought the first Stanley Cup to Hockeytown in 42 years.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Elena and his two sons, Art and Max.
Mnatsakanov was the massager on the team in 1997 when Detroit won their first Stanley Cup in 42 years. The guys in the back are just as important as the players on the ice, and they all deserve recognition.
Sergei was involved in a limo accident and came out of it paralyzed from the waist down. It's assumed he passed away from those life altering injuries, even though the Red Wings didn't give any more details on his death.
