Important member of the Stanley Cup Winning Red Wings Sergei Mnatsakanov passes away at 71 years of age
The Detroit Red Wings have shared the sad news that former team member, Sergei Mnatsakanov, has passed away.
The team made the announcement their X (formerly Twitter) page.
«The Detroit Red Wings are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former team masseur Sergei Mnatsakanov. Sergei was part of the 1997 Stanley Cup Championship team that ended a 42-year Cup drought in Hockeytown. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Elena, and his two sons, Art and Max.»
Mnatsakanov was the team's 'masseur', as once called, in 1997 when Detroit won their first Stanley Cup in 42 years. The staff behind the scenes are just as important as the players on the ice, and they deserve recognition.
Sergei was involved in a limo accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Details on his death were not provided.
