It was a cool moment to see when former Blackhawks Patrick Kane spent time with his son Patrick the third When he and his son were tapping sticks on the glass prior to the start of the Toronto Maple Leafs game.

Both Kanes were enjoying themselves and having a good laugh. This laughter and moment were one of the few that he has had over the past several weeks as he has recovered from an injury and has been invisible for the Red Wings for most of this season.

Kane's gameplay has taken a step back this year as he appears slow and not as effective as before when he returned to the NHL after having evasive hip surgery. He settled on signing with the Red Wings and almost put them into the playoffs with his great play where he had 47 points in 50 games.

This season he has only scored three goals along with eight assists for 11 points through 25 games and is a - 7. It's important to note that general manager Kyle Davidson made the right choice in not retaining Kane's services as many fans had hoped they would.

The Red Wings have not played well as of late and were losers of their last 12 of their last 15 games. They defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 on Saturday night which included an assist and two penalty minutes for Kane.

There will be much speculation as the March trade deadline approaches in the new year to whether the Red Wings will keep Kane for the remainder of the season or send him to another team that would be a contender.

He holds a one-year deal worth $4 million which could be reduced significantly if the Red Wings were to retain up to 50% of his salary. Even though his season has not gone as well as hoped, it would be expected that some teams would be lining up for a call to see what could be done to make a trade.

Meanwhile the Blackhawks will be heading home for a second game of a back-to-back against the New York Islanders where game time will be 3:00 PM eastern at the United Center
