New York Rangers defensemen Jacob Trouba and trade reports addressed

Just a few weeks ago strong reports emerged from New York that captain Jacob Trouba would reportedly be bought out or traded by the organization. Trouba holds a 15-team-no trade clause, and according to reports, he and his agent, Kurt Overhardt, blocked a trade from the Rangers.

«Quite frankly, the Rangers don't have many other places to turn. Even if they traded Trouba today, who would replace him in their lineup? The next right-handed defenseman on their depth chart is newly signed Casey Fitzgerald, a 27-year-old with only 63 games of NHL experience.»

Trouba's wife is also stationed in a hospital in New York, as he just signed a long-term deal, many believe he refused a trade due to that reasoning.

Trouba has two years left on his freshly inked deal of a whopping $8 million per year, which makes him one of the highest paid defensemen.

Many believed that with the Blackhawks' whopping $35M in free cap space heading into next season, that Trouba would be an option to acquire as he would provide veteran leadership and toughness for the young guns- while Kyle Davidson would take on a sweetener and gain draft capitals for taking on Trouba's iffy 8 million dollar deal.

Info on his blocked trade:

"There was a deal in place with the Red Wings, I am told, and Jacob used the power given to him in his contractand he earned itto block it, and that's within his rights," said Kaplan in an interview on TSN.

Trouba, the winner of this year's Mark Messier Leadership Award in the NHL, had his full no-move clause revert to a 15-team no-trade clause as of July 1st, and he submitted that list to GM Chris Drury, a list which included the Red Wings.
