Alexander Edler missed the whole 2023-24 season, now he retires.
At the age of 38, there were questions on whether he would play again or not in the NHL. Well, our question was answered.
It was announced by the Vancouver Canucks that Edler will sign a one-day contract and retire a Canuck on Friday, October 11 against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Edler was drafted in the third round in the 2004 National Hockey League Draft. Edler played his last two seasons with the Los Angeles Kings. The former defenseman had 439 points in 1,030 games with a -19 in his career.
He said in a statement that he's grateful to be retiring a Canuck, where he started his career.
"I am humbled and honoured to officially end my career and retire as a member of the Vancouver Canucks," said Edler. "I consider myself lucky to have started my career with such an outstanding organization, in this amazing city, with the best fans in the NHL. Finishing my NHL career where it all began is something very special for myself and my family."
