Worrying update given by sports doctor on Washington Capitals Alex Ovechkin's injury and it may be long-term
Alex Ovechkin sustains injury that causes scare to the hockey world: a doctor issues an update
'The Great Eight' Alexander Ovechkin has been the most trending topic in the NHL this season as he is chasing Wayne Gretzky's record, but now that may come to a halt.
After a massive collision when the Washington Capitals faced off against Utah Monday night, Ovechkin could be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
In as little as 18 games this 2023-24 NHL season, Ovechkin has turned back the clock to his prime rookie days and has scored 15 goals so far- leading the league in goals. Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews who?
After colliding with Utah Hockey Club's Jack McBain, Ovechkin may have suffered a knee injury.
Washington Capitals' head coach Spencer Carberry refused to give an update to the media during post-game interviews, leaving media with a quote that may frighten some:
Alex Ovechkin is still being evaluated, per head coach Spencer Carbery.
More updates on his status are expected tomorrow.
Doctor Harjas Grewal, who tweets further insight into NHL injuries, stated the following:
Time off depends on grade and although it is hard to gauge grade by video, there wasn't an extreme amount of inward stress so hopefully grade 1 or 2 and max 4-6 weeks out
Will add that a torn ACL is also possible but highly unlikely IMO
Fans across the NHL have their fingers crossed in hopes that is is nothing serious, but an ACL tearing or a MCL sprain could be 4-6 weeks of Ovechkin off the ice, meaning his hopes of catching 'The Great One' Wayne Gretzky's goal record this season is unlikely, and it could definitely impact the rest of his career.
One of the biggest enforcers in the NHL, Tom Wilson, went ahead and took matters into his own hands and fought Jack McBain.

Fingers crossed, and prayers for Alex Ovechkin.
