During the first round of the draft, the Blackhawks have picks #2 and #20 overall.
This could end up being a tough draft for the Blackhawks and Kyle Davidson, as they have to choose between Artyom Levshunov of Michigan State or Ivan Demidov of SKA 1946 in the MHL.
But the next choice is the most curious, as we haven't the faintest idea of who the Blackhawks will choose afterward with the 20th Overall pick.
With the 2024 Draft being a weaker overall draft, he could move up earlier in the draft, which is what he did in 2022, by trading Kirby Dach and Alex DeBrincat.
He also flipped the 38th pick for goalie Petr Mrazek and the 25th pick, and also tried to move the 19th overall, but ended up securing Oliver Moore anyways.
With assets to move, the Blackhawks and Kyle Davidson could flip them, to move up in the 1st round.
They could move up to 10th-16th and secure
He recently played 68 games for the Spokane Chiefs, scoring 54 goals and 116 points total. He is a dynamic goal-scorer, with great skating capabilities. The only reason he fell is due to his lack of size at 5'11", 165lbs.
The Athletic Journalist Corey Pronman suggests he'd go tenth overall to New Jersey, but the Devils could be convinced to give up the tenth pick if the price is right.
With the 2024 Draft being defense-heavy, the Blackhawks could fill a right-shot need by picking Carter Yakemchuk. Yakemchuk would fill a need that the Blackhawks are light on in the system, with Louis Crevier and Sam Rinzel being the only right-handed defensemen in their pipeline.
Yakemchuk has scored 71 points in 66 games for the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL.
Yakemchuk has great offensive potential and size at 6'3"194lbs, with a great Hockey IQ, is great skating speed, and a good slapshot. A great defenseman in the making.
Cole Eiserman was a consensus higher pick in the draft, considered top-5 until recently. The Massachusetts-born center, is a bona fide goal scorer, scoring 58 goals and 89 points in 57 games with the US NTDP.
The reason for the drop is likely his lack of defensive play and playmaking could use some improvement. Eiserman is projected to go 11th-13th overall during the 1st round.
Eiserman is one of the NTDP's best goal-scorers and is projected to be a top-six winger in the NHL. He will have to work on his two-way play and his playmaking capabilities, which he should brush up on at Boston University.
Eiserman could be paired with one of the Hawk's many playmaking wingers, if so be on the lookout for Eiserman during the draft.
