With only seven games left to go in the season and Chicago mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, Blackhawk fans are slowly starting to look towards the NHL Draft Lottery in April. The Hawks lucked out by getting Connor Bedard last year with the first selection, but what are their odds for the same thing to happen this year?
Last year when the Blackhawks won it, they sat as the third worst team in the league (30th) and carried a 11.5% chance of winning it.
At the current moment, the Blackhawks currently sit at 31st in the league, so they carry a 13.5% chance, a full two percent from last year. The current last place team are the San Jose Sharks, who are seven points behind at 42, meaning the Hawks can still fall to last place and grab the best odds, even though it's unlikely.
The current favorite to go #1 is center Macklin Celebrini. Some honorable mentions are defenseman Artyom Levushnov, forward Cayden Lindstrom, and forward Ivan Demidov.
This year is not a pivotal year to get the number one pick, so a top three would be the best case scenario for them, and Davidson and his team should be going home happy knowing they have a shot at either Levushnov, Demidov, or Lindstrom.
