Macklin Celebrini's dad reveals what team he wants his son drafted to
The Celebrini's are excited for their son to be the 1st overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry draft. Their desire, of course, is to see their son successful in his NHL career.
However, their choice of destination for their son is quite concerning as it seems Macklin Celebrini's father, Rick wants him to end up in the Bay Area of California, wearing the teal uniform of the San Jose Sharks.
«It'd be amazing," Rick Celebrini, Warriors director of sports medicine and performance and father of the Livermore-based family, told San Jose Hockey Now this week. "We talk about it all the time. We try not to go there either. Because it's out of our hands, and you really don't want to be disappointed either. But as a family, it would be unbelievable to have him here with us in the Bay where we can help him and support him.»
This desire isn't unrealistic, or unreasonable, as Celebrini works for the Golden State Warriors, as the director of sports medicine and performance for the team.
The Warriors hired Rick Celebrini in 2018, a Vancouver native, and the rest of the family quickly followed him to the Bay Area.
Both Aiden- 13 and Macklin- 15 played for the Jr. Sharks as well in the 2019-2020 season.
Macklin would post an astonishing 49 goals and 45 assists in 54 games, as an U14 Hockey player.
Rick credits Jr. Sharks head coach, Robert Savoie as greatly influenced Macklin.
«Sometimes, you get a little bit too comfortable being in the same place, that being Vancouver as he grew up through his early years,» Rick said. «But to come to a different environment, different challenges, different way of doing things, I think that helped him mature and adapt and grow. The people that were around the Jr. Sharks did a wonderful job of supporting him and teaching him. There's something to be gained and learned every step of the way. I think the Jr. Sharks provided a really good step for both the boys.»
Rick's position within the Warriors organization itself, has allowed the Celebrini family to take advantage of the situation and learn from some of the best athletes in the world.
Both Celebrini boys were able to witness Steph Curry's greatness and learn how he approaches the game of basketball and how he trains.
Both Aiden and Macklin went to the "Hogwarts" of Hockey at Shattuck St. Mary's, where many NHL stars attended as well, like Sidney Crosby and Jonathan Toews for example.
Rick himself is hoping that the bottom-dwelling Sharks will select his son 1st overall as it will keep him close to home. But isn't going to get his hopes up as nothing is certain.
However if the Sharks continue their basement-dwelling losing, they're surefire guaranteed to select Celebrini, who has drawn comparison to the Blackhawks' Jonathan Toews.
