During the first period of the Edmonton Oilers Columbus Blue Jackets game, Oilers superstar Connor McDavid sustained a lower body injury after being tripped at the blue line.
The incident took place on the first shift of the first period when McDavid attempted to break into the Columbus zone where he was tripped right at the blue line. This caused him to fall into the boards awkwardly and tried to skate it off. Shortly after it was clear that he could not, and he gingerly skated towards the bench with his left leg with barely any weight on it.
It was a short time later that the Oilers announced that he had a lower body injury and that he will not be returning to the game.
Losing McDavid even this early in the season is a devastating blow to the Oilers as the team is trying to find its way out of its funk as they have begun to put some wins together. If he misses any significant time, this will put more pressure on Leon Draisaitl and the rest of the leadership group to carry the team over the next number of games.
McDavid himself has been racking up the points as of late. He has played nine games, has three goals with 7 assists for 10 points.
