Alexander Ovechkin Reveals Why He Took a Leave of Absence From The Washington Capitals
According to a statement released by the Washington Capitals' public relations department yesterday, Alexander Ovechkin has temporarily left the team due to a family matter involving a family member's health.
Washington Capitals senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today that captain Alex Ovechkin will be away from the team to attend to a family matter and the health of a loved one.
A day later, Alexander Ovechkin posted on social media the news of Mikhail Ovechkin's passing, Mikhail was Ovechkin's father and was alongside his career since day 1.
Alex Ovechkin announced the death of his father, Mikhail, on Instagram. The #Caps' captain wrote: «Today I lost my father. I thank everyone for the support, but please be understanding and do not disturb my family in this difficult time for us. Thank you.»

During press conferences, the Capitals head coach and Nicklas Backstrom, his best friend and teammate, expressed their prayers.
