Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has been noticeably absent from the team over the last few weeks due to a non-Covid related illness. With Toews's scary health issue that almost ended his career, there was immediate cause for concern. While Toews hasn't been on the ice, he has been making strides in the right direction to rejoin the Blackhawks soon.
Toews did not make the road trip with the team, which means that he'll miss at least the next two games for Chicago when they visit Toronto and old friend Alex DeBrincat in Ottawa on Friday. Toews will be out for a total of 6 games, and has missed 8 practices and counting.
Toews's absence has been felt in the lineup at the faceoff circle, but Jason Dickinson has stepped up nicely to fill his role. Hopefully Toews can get back on the ice when the Blackhawks return and rejoin the starting lineup for their last 3 home games ahead of the March 3rd trade deadline.
