Another Blackhawks center named a prime trade deadline rental target by NHL Insider
Another member of the Chicago Blackhawks has found his way in the rumour mill on Tuesday, as Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli has added center Ryan Carpenter to his list of the top-25 deadline trade targets.
Carpenter, 31, fits the mold of the common trade deadline piece that teams covet. He's a solid depth forward with playoff experience who wins faceoffs, kills penalties and does a lot of the little things that teams tend to look for in a playoff rental.
Perhaps one of the most alluring thing about Carpenter is his $1M cap hit. With a lot of contending teams, salary cap implications are very important, and adding a versatile player who doesn't break the bank can allow for additional moves to bolster a team in other positions as well.
The Oviedo, Florida native has played the last 3 seasons in Chicago, recording 27 points during his 157-game tenure with the Hawks. Carpenter was also a member of the 2017-18 Vegas Golden Knights team who went to the Stanley Cup Finals.
While not the sexiest name available, Carpenter is a good box-checking player who can likely be had for very cheap, which should make him an intriguing option for NHL GM's at or ahead of the March 21st trade deadline.
