BREAKING - 3x Stanley Cup Champion Coming Out of Retirement
Niklas Hjalmarsson announced his retirement about 15 months ago, but he doesn't seem to be finding complete fulfillment with being away from hockey.
According to Hjalmarsson, he plans on join HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League.
Hjalmarsson retired from the NHL and immediately returned to his home country of Sweden, so this would be a good opportunity for him to be close to family and still play professional hockey.
'' There have always been thoughts of playing in HV71 again and the desire has become even greater when I have been to the matches and felt the atmosphere in the arena. I drive by Husqvarna Garden every day and think about what it would have been like to play in HV71and I really want to give this a chance or I will regret it in the future.
I have great respect for the SHL as a league and now I will start training with the team to feel what I stand for. Then whether it will be two weeks, a year or three years, the future will tell. But I'm incredibly excited for hockey again and it will be great fun to come to Husqvarna Garden on Monday and meet everyone.''
He had 821 points in his 14-year career, and as many should know, he won three Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks in 2010, 2013, and 2015.
Hjalmarsson does not have an idea for how long he will play, if he even does. He just wants to train with the team and see where his skills stand these days and hope to get a spot on the roster as he's always dreamed of as a kid.
