BREAKING - Gary Bettman shockingly completes a move relocating an NHL franchise
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has succeeded in moving a team back to its original city. Reports say the Arizona Coyotes are close to getting land in Phoenix for a new arena.
We don't know all the details yet, and it's unclear if the Coyotes or Commissioner Bettman will say more during the upcoming board of governors meetings. But the team hopes to share their plans for the project next month.
Right now, the Coyotes play at Arizona State University's Mullett Arena, but they've been looking for a permanent home since 2022. In May, voters in Tempe said no to the Coyotes' idea for an entertainment district and arena.
The team has moved around Phoenix since starting in the desert in 1996. They started at America West Arena and later went to Glendale Arena, now called Gila River Arena, in 2003. Dreger tweeted about the ongoing situation, stating:
"Not sure if Commissioner Bettman or the Arizona Coyotes will say more today. As mentioned last night on @TSNHockey, the Coyotes are close to getting land in Phoenix for a new arena. They hope to share their plans next month."
In August 2021, Glendale decided not to keep working with the Coyotes after the 2021-22 season, so the team moved to Mullett Arena.
