BREAKING: Last-minute surprise on NHL waivers today and a big opportunity for the Blackhawks
There's some NHL waiver action today, and the Nashville Predators have thrown in a surprise by placing a former 1st round on waivers.
Liam Foudy, known for his solid and speedy skating, will now be available for free to all NHL teams. Picked 18th overall in the 2018 draft (1st round), the 23-year-old forward has notched 7 goals and 15 assists (22 points) in 102 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Nashville Predators.
Head coach Andrew Brunette of the Nashville Predators expressed his admiration for Foudy's speed but suggested that he could benefit from some time in the AHL to work on finishing and strength:
'If he is not claimed, I will be very happy to have him in the organization. I really like this young man and I really like his speed,'
Brunette added.
The outcome will be revealed tomorrow at 2 PM, and we'll know if the head coach's hope of Foudy going unclaimed stays alive or if another NHL team picks him up.
A rebuilding team like the Blackhawks submitting a waiver claim would be a no-brainer in a low risk high reward scenario for the 23-year old former 18th overall pick.
