Prior to the Blackhawks 2021-22 season, it was announced that Pat Foley would be calling his final season as the Blackhawks color analyst. Following the 2021-22 season, another shocking change occurred and it was revealed that Eddie Olczyk would also be departing the Blackhawks booth. He, along with his son, Nick, have joined the Seattle Kraken to be their color analysts. With two empty seats in the booth, the Blackhawks had to replace the iconic duo and today the Hawks announced who would be filling the role.

Patrick Sharp and Troy Murray will be the new color analysts for the Blackhawks for the foreseeable future. Both names should sound familiar as Patrick Sharp was one of the key pieces to Blackhawks success in the early 2010's. Since retiring, Sharp would join NBC as a color analyst and eventually find his way home to NBC Chicago. Troy Murray has been a part of calling Blackhawks games since 1998 and has been partnered with John Wiedeman since 2006 on WGN radio. Murray was diagnosed with cancer in August of 2022, but with the support of the Blackhawks and their passionate fan base, Murray has continued to call Blackhawks games.

This news should serve as a relief for Blackhawks fans. Pat Foley and Eddie Olczyk were fan favorites and it can be hard to replace such an iconic pair of passionate analysts. However, putting the pretty face of Patrick Sharp and the long tenured Troy Murray in the booth should be considered a win for the Blackhawks. Both Sharp and Murray are passionate for the team and most importantly - they *know* the team. Despite the team's poor performance on the ice, the commentary team might just be good enough to keep some fans drawn in during the rebuild.
