BREAKING NEWS - League to Ban Fighting
Fans pay the price, and at times, an absurd price to watch their teams compete in person. Occasionally fights breakout as well during games of all levels, which makes the price of the ticket a lot more worth it, but what if fighting is slowly being taken out of hockey, or banned as a whole?
That is the case with one of the NHL's top developmental leagues, the QMJHL, who plans to set a rule that will ban fighting from their league permanently. Throughout this season, they already started cracking down on fighting by handing out 10-minute major penalties for each fighter in hopes to stop the fighting, but it has not worked one bit.
A QMJHL spokesperson provided the following details:
The QMJHL is planning to have a rule in place that will ban fighting, making it black and white that it is no longer a part of our game. The punishments have not been decided as of yet. We will be looking to have a rule in place in June when the next general annual assembly of the members of the board of governors takes place.
There has been no set rule determined yet for what will be enforced if a fight breaks out, but previous reports make it seem like we may be seeing any players involved in fighting get kicked out of the game as a whole.
