The NHL may go hopping with the kangaroos next preseason.
According to NHL insider Kevin Weekes, the league is planning on taking a trip to Australia for preseason game(s). Now, a lot goes into these events. One thing such as ice quality. The Milwaukee game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Minnesota Wild last year is a great example.
Blackhawks defenseman and All Star Seth Jones described the ice as «not great.» Also, tickets will sellout rapidly, so making sure the time for when the tickets come out to be fair for all people will also matter. Everyone in Australia who wants to go to the game should be able too.
One more possibility this opens is overseas games being a yearly tradition. More overseas hockey games means more fans and more exposure for the league.
