During the early spring months into summer, the state of Illinois faces a threat from above. The state along with others in the Midwest is known in the weather world as Tornado Alley, and late March well into October is when tornado season happens.

During tonight's game with the Blackhawks AHL Rockford IceHogs, there was an announcement from the National Weather Service of severe weather and possible torndaoes. The storm that was responsible for this threat is known as a Colorado low and can be very violent in terms of storms and tornadoes.

After the announcement from the NWS, a tornado warning had been issued and that the team began to evacuate the seating bowl area of the arena. Nothing could be more frightening than sitting in an open space arena with the tornado threat looming overhead.

Luckily, no tornado hit the arena or the city of Rockford and after many tense minutes, the PA announced that the tornado warning was over and the game could continue.

Sadly, several tornadoes broke out during this storm and have wreaked havoc across multiple states. We all have our thoughts and prayers for the people in the tornado zone and hope for a speedy recovery.
