Bedard has been selected by the Blackhawks now the team and management must identify players who can help protect him, as he will undoubtedly be one of the most targeted players in the league.
Bedard's exceptional skill set, hockey IQ, and overall excellent play will be on full display for fans to enjoy. However, it is worth noting that his physical size is not as large as that of many players in his position, which is number one center.
Most centermen in that position are over 6 feet 2 inches tall and weigh over 200 pounds, as this role is one of the most pivotal ones in a hockey team.
Recognizing this need, the Blackhawks have decided to bring in Milton Oscarson, who was drafted in the 2023 draft as the 167th overall pick in the sixth round. The 20-year-old from Sweden stands at 6 feet 6 inches and weighs 216 pounds. Although he primarily plays center, he is likely to be positioned on the right wing.
Oscarson is expected to fit into the Blackhawks' bottom 6 lineup, providing the team with a much-needed shutdown role that will help slow down opponents. Additionally, he will add valuable size and muscle to protect players like Bedard.
It is anticipated that Bedard will undergo further physical growth over the next few years. Once he steps onto the ice, his raw skill set will make him one of the most dangerous players in the NHL.
