Blackhawks ending the Penguins' playoff hopes?
For much of this season, the Blackhawks have resided at the bottom of the standings. This is all done by design as the Blackhawks are looking to rebuild their team in a new image, by strip-mining all of their talents while sending them to other teams for a chance at a cup.
The Blackhawks have recuperated numerous draft picks and prospects in the process that will help accelerate this plan. But sometimes certain wins throughout a season like this always feel a little bittersweet.
The Blackhawks were on the road tonight and had the opportunity to put
Sidney Crosby and the Penguins on the verge of elimination.
The Hawks did just that and won 5-2. With the Penguins' loss and the Panthers now clinching a playoff spot, it will all come down to the New York Islanders tomorrow when they will meet the Montreal Canadiens.
The Islanders only need one point to clinch their playoff spot, and if that happens it will be the first time in 16 years that the Penguins do not make it to the playoffs.
Time will tell if the Penguins will begin their teardown phase of their team or a small retool.
