Blackhawks interviewing the infamous Peter Chiarelli!
Recently, the Chicago Blackhawks have not been a stranger to the media world. The day after Hawks owner Rocky Wirtz lashed out in Chicago charm, the Hawks were the 3rd highest, trending, subject being tweeted. Somewhere in the area of 17,000 tweets were about the Chicago Blackhawks. Most would assume people were not talking about how awesome Patrick Kane is this year. The majority was no doubt dower discussions.
The Hawks currently have Kyle Davidson as the interim GM. They are actively seeking out new candidates and interviewing them. Recently, they made news by revealing that some alumni would be involved. Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp would be assisting and consulting with the organization, from a former successful players point of view. More on the managerial side is former Hawks Eddie Olczyk.
Enter Peter Chiarelli. Loathed, it seems, by many in the NHL world. Currently, he is involved with the St. Louis Blues organization. His role is the Vice President of Hockey Operations.
He is know for his ups and downs in Edmonton, as the GM. (Let go in 2018). Chiarelli drafted really with the Oilers. While in Edmonton, he brought in Connor McDavid, Ethan Bear, Caleb Jones, Jesse Puljujarvi, Tyler Benson, Evan Bouchard, Kailer Yamamoto, Markus NIemelainen, Stuart Skinner, Dmitri Samorukov, , and Ryan McLeod. He did not perform well however, when it came to talent evaluations. He signed Milan Lucic to a seven-year, $6-million AAV deal, Andrej Sekera to a six-year, $5.5-million deal, also signing Koskinen to a 4mil+ year deal.
He also previously worked as a general manager with the Boston Bruins and won the Stanley Cup with them in 2011. With that in mind, he has experienced winning. Perhaps a second chance at the helm, can provide a bounce back for the Hawks.
