The Blackhawks have had a controversial offseason when it comes to trades and signings and it's all in the name of the rebuild (or tank). Seemingly preserving their young talent, the Hawks signed former Colorado defenseman Jack Johnson to a one-year deal for $950,000.
Johnson became a Stanley cup champion last season for the first time in his 16-season career, and will likely see more ice time in Chicago. He's played with Seth Jones in the past when they were both on the Blue Jackets.
From what we've seen of Johnson, he's a player who blocks shots and dishes out hits while still being able to take it to the net. He's played 1,024 regular season games, having both veteran presence and preestablished relationships with a few players in the Blackhawks' locker room.
This signing tells fans one of two things: either someone is getting traded soon, or Chicago will have to wait patiently to see the rookies in Rockford get their chance. If all goes according to Kyle Davidson's plan of getting worse before getting better, we might see Connor Bedard drafted by the Blackhawks in the near future.
