Before The Minnesota Wild re-signed goaltender Marc Andre Fleury there had been rumors that Talbot was not happy when the Wild acquired goaltender Marc Andre Fleury at the trade deadline. What made it even worse was the fact Talbot lost his starter's role with the team despite performing well during the regular season at the time.

Minnesota Wild's General Manager Bill Guerin would re-sign Fleury without discussing this with Talbot a sign that Talbot felt was obviously disrespectful.

After Fleury signed a two year extension there were reports that Talbot had formally requested a trade to get a better opportunity elsewhere.

Wild GM Bill Guerin was hoping that things would work out with both Talbot and Fleury in Minnesota this upcoming season but knew that obviously wasn't going to work when you have two goalies who both want to be the number one guy.

You can't say that Guerin isn't a straight shooter as he made that evidenced to Talbot. But Talbot also made it clear his feeling on the situation. Guerin would realize that a trade was best for everyone and dealt Talbot to the Ottawa Senators for goaltender Filip Gustavsson.

Cam Talbot's wife would also share her opinion on how things went down in Minnesota.

As for Talbot, he's happy for a fresh start.

«I'm excited about the move," he said to TSN insider Pierre LeBrun. "They already had a good young core and they made some good moves at the draft and have the space to still make a splash the next couple days. Looking forward to joining the group and helping to lead them back to the playoffs.»

"Cam is experienced and provides us with greater goaltending stability heading into next season," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion in a prepared statement. "He was instrumental in helping Minnesota reach the playoffs in each of his two seasons with the Wild. The tandem of he and Anton Forsberg sets us up nicely for the upcoming year."
