The Vancouver Canucks haven't had the season many hoped they would. They currently sit 14 points out of a wildcard spot with 39 points.
Last season after a 8-15-2 start, they brought in veteran coach Bruce Boudreau who promptly turned things around as the Canucks went 32-15-10 the rest of the way. You would figure a record like that would have earned the 68-year-old Boudreau some job security. Yeah about that...
In one of the worst kept secrets, the team is going to fire him. The writing has been on the wall for over a month. It's expected that tonight is his last game as the Canucks coach with the team expected to hire Rick Tocchet as soon as Monday.
Good on the Canucks fans for giving him the respect he deserves unlike the organization which has essentially slapped him in the face with disrespect.
At age 68, this very well could be it for Boudreau in the NHL and if it is, let the man ride off into the sunset after 1,086 career games behind the bench with four organizations over 16 years and a Jack Adams Award in 2007-08.
