There was no such thing as cheerleading in hockey until the present day.
However, the cheerleaders are referred to as "ice girls" instead of the regular term, cheerleaders. Their roles are also much different.
They don't really go out on the ice or enter arenas. Instead, they do off-ice performances representing the team they're cheering for. On occasion, you'll see the girls in the arena, or out on the ice, so it isn't completely unheard of.
One of the best crews are the Dallas Stars ice girls. This shouldn't be surprising, as the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders are very popular. And yes, the Chicago Blackhawks have ice girls, but not every team in the NHL does, as it is somewhat does.
