Chicago Blackhawks Are Praying That This Forward is Available at Pick 19
The Chicago Blackhawks have shown a keen interest in 'Daniil But', a 6-foot-5 forward from Russia, despite his absence from the combine. However, there are concerns about his availability when it comes time for the Blackhawks to make their pick.
During the combine, Blackhawks President of Hockey Operations was questioned about potential apprehensions regarding drafting players from Russia.
He responded by stating that each case is evaluated individually, considering factors like contractual obligations and the player's desire to come and play in North America. While there may be additional work required given the current circumstances, there is no general apprehension about selecting Russian players.
«I think it's case by case, whether it be contractual obligations, you're always asking even this predates any of the current situation in the world, is you're always trying to get a sense of their willingness to come and want to play in North America. That's always a question you have, but on the face of it, as a general rule, I don't think there's apprehension. I think you just have to do a little more work I think, given the circumstances right now.»
As the draft approaches, the Blackhawks will continue their evaluation process to determine the best course of action regarding But and other potential prospects.
