Juraj Slafkovsky is the new guy in town in Montreal. After being selected first overall back on July 7th in the Bell Centre Slafkovsky is hoping to make the Canadiens lineup this season.
One of Slafkovsky's new teammates defenceman Chris Wideman would give up his number #20 for Slafkovsky to wear in Montreal. That is the number Slafkovsky has worn in his young career so far so this was a very nice gesture by Wideman.
We told you about it a few days ago, but it's now official. Juraj Slafkovsky will be wearing the #20 jersey with the Montreal Canadiens:
However, Wideman wouldn't leave this deal empty handed last night, in an interview with Tomas Prokop, Slafkovsky revealed he's going to hook up Wideman.
"I'm so grateful to Chris Wideman. We have completed a trade. I'm giving him an autographed jersey, for his son and I'll definitely invite Chris to the restaurant as well."
Wideman would reveal he did the kind gesture to make his no Slovakian teammate feel in Montreal.
"First and foremost, we're trying to create an environment and a culture where he can feel welcome with the team," said Wideman, who will wear No. 6 starting next season. "He's a young guy, and I wanted to make sure he knows that we're excited to have him with us and that we're going to make this an environment where he can reach his full potential and become a really good player in this league." - Chris Wideman, Via Montreal Canadiens website
