Connor Bedard inks brand new multi-million dollar contract that's not with Chicago
The Chicago Blackhawks are placing their bets on Connor Bedard as a key player in their rebuilding phase, and it looks like the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) is joining the game.
In an announcement on Monday, CIBC, Canada's fifth-largest bank, revealed that it has partnered with Connor Bedard, the NHL's rookie scoring leader, as an "ambassador and spokesperson." The move aims to boost both Bedard's career ambitions and CIBC's profile.
The specifics of the deal aren't disclosed, but given Bedard's status as a rising star, many speculate that it's a multi-million dollar contract. Currently holding a three-year entry-level contract with a range of bonuses, Bedard's NHL salary sits at the maximum for a rookie $4.45 million. Considering CIBC's colossal worth of $4.45 billion, it's a safe assumption that Bedard is securing a lucrative deal in the multi-millions.
Hailing from North Vancouver, British Columbia, the 18-year-old Bedard has already cultivated a portfolio of corporate sponsorships and partnerships through Newport Sports Management in Mississauga, Ontario, including prominent names like Lululemon and Hyundai.
In a statement, Bedard expressed his connection with CIBC, stating:
"My family are long-time clients of CIBC, they are the first and only bank I've used since growing up in Vancouver. As our family's bank, CIBC has always been there behind the scenes to support my early ambitions in hockey, and my move to Chicago. As I grow my career, I'm excited to take this next step as an ambassador for the bank that's been there for me throughout my journey so far."
With 14 million clients and 48,000 employees, CIBC sees this collaboration as a strategic move to align with Bedard's rising star power and contribute to his success both on and off the ice.
